Dear Parent(s),

We had a terrific time in Hawaii!  The children enjoyed wearing their shorts and flip-flops and learning about Hawaii and ocean animals!  I am sure we have the best hula dancers for miles around!  Please ask your child to share their pineapples books with you.

We had a special visitor today!  Kristi Tostenson, a “scientist” visited our classroom today.  She shared experiments that the children thought were magic!  They very much enjoyed her presentation and learned more about science and being a scientist!

Attached to the newsletter are several things that need your attention.  There is a way that all K kids can get their Weekly Reader free!  Please fill in the coupons and return them to school and soon as you can.  The more that are returned the more our kids can have free!

Also attached is the list of children in our classroom.  This is our Valentine list and I do expect everyone to make valentines for everyone in our class.  There is a list of optional people.  This list is of adults that your child sees daily.  It is up to you if you want to give valentines to them

This next week, we will be learning about different animals and what they do in the winter months.  We will learn about animals that hibernate, migrate, or adapt to their environments.  We will also be going to the Prairie Wetlands Learning Center to learn even more about these animals. We are scheduled to go on Friday, February 3rd. We will leave at about 8:45 and return at about 10:30.  This is the day that your child will need all of their winter gear because we do spend some time outside.  If you are interested in going with us, please let me know.

This next week is the Oo week.  Please help your child remember to bring something for show and tell on Friday that begins with the letter Oo.

Dear Parent(s),

Aloha!  We have been in Hawaii and enjoying the warmer weather! We will be having some fun on the beach on Friday, the 27th.  Your child may wear shorts, flip-flops, sunglasses, visors, hats, and anything else you can think of that we might need to have with us for the warm weather.  It is best if your child wears shorts under his/her pants and then they can take the pants off here at school.

On Thursday, we had Science Day!  All of the kindergarten children got to learn about matter.  We learned different ways to melt an ice cube, sorted different types of matter, blew bubbles, made sculptures and did some float and sink activities.  It was awesome! Ask you child about solids, liquids, and gases.

Jess Steinbrenner will be with us on Wednesday, Feb 1st.  I will need to have some volunteers to help her make paper with the children.  The time is 11:45-12:45.  Please let me know if you can help us out.  Thanks!  And don’t forget about our trip to the Prairie Wetlands Learning Center on Friday, Feb. 3rd!

Our library is looking for lots of the books!!!!  Please help us and return them to school for other children to check them out.  We also need the literacy bags back too!

       Have a great weekend!

       Stay safe!

Dear Parent(s),

We will be flying to Hawaii on Tuesday, the 17th to enjoy some very warm weather!  We are all excited to be visiting somewhere that is warm!  We will be spending about 2 weeks in Hawaii.  We will be learning about the state of Hawaii, ocean animals, and enjoying some time on the beaches!  I am sure you will be hearing a lot of aloha’s in the next couple of weeks!

In math this week we learned another new math game.  It is called Melt an Ice Cube.  I am sure your child will be able to help you learn this game!  We also got to play with tangram puzzle pieces.  Your child should have one in their school bag.  See if you can make a square with the pieces.  Remember—you have to use all seven pieces..

This next week, we will be working on the letter Mm.  Please help your child to remember to bring something for show and tell that begins with the letter Mm.

We will be going to the Prairie Wetlands Learning Center in the morning of Friday, Feb. 3rd.  We will be learning about animals and what they do in the winter months.  Please let me know if you are interested in joining us.

We are in need of glue!  Please send some glue bottles as soon as you can.  Thanks for your help!

Just a reminder that there is no school on Monday, the 16th due to Martin Luther King Day.

Have a great weekend!

Dear Parent(s),

Happy New Year and welcome back!  We are all very happy to be back at school.  As one child said, “It’s 2012 and I know I can read!”

We will be working on rhyming words and there is some homework for you and your child.  Attached to the newsletter is a paper bag.  Please read the poem and find something at home to fit in the bag.  Don’t forget to write a word that rhymes with whatever you have in the bag.  An example might be to put a plastic mouse in the bag and then write house on the bag.  Please return these on Monday.

This next week we will be learning more about snow and ice. (Now I know how southern teachers feel when their children have never seen snow!)  Then we will be off to Hawaii!  (Don’t I wish!)  We will be learning about the Hawaiian Islands and just having fun on the beach with letters, words, and numbers!

The “King of Ing” also visited this week.  Everyone got to wear the hat and think of a word that ends with ing. Ask your child about the “King of Ing!”

This next week we will be doing our MAP testing again.  Please make sure that your child gets a good nights rest and a good breakfast.

We will be going to the Prairie Wetland Learning Center to learn about winter animals and what they do during the cold winter months. This is scheduled for Friday, Feb. 3rd.  Please let me know if you would like to come with us.

We have two new friends in our classroom.  Aiden and Lillian joined us this week.  We are very happy they are with us!  Welcome!

Have a great weekend!

Dear Parent(s)

It is hard to believe that the year 2011 is almost gone.  It is even more unbelievable how much each and every child has grown in our classroom.  Not just in height but in maturity and in their academics.  Thank you for allowing me to be your child’s teacher.  I enjoy every single minute of it and I cannot wait to see what the New Year will bring for each of these beautiful children.

The children have enjoyed making their own gingerbread houses, (I think they all got home in one piece!) making a bird feeder and of course, the best was being able to wear pajamas to school for our Polar Express Day!  We even got hot chocolate and cookies! Mmmmmm good!

After our winter vacation, we will be learning about snow and ice.  The next letter we will be working on is Kk and then we will be off to Hawaii and learning lots about the islands and sea life. And in math, we have been learning how to interpret different kinds of graphs, adding, and even some subtraction.  We will begin learning about 3-d shapes and where they might be found in our environment.

The Winter Program was enjoyed by all.  A special thank you to Mrs. Lyseng, our music teacher, for all of her hard work and dedication.

Don’t forget to check out our blog.  Some new pictures have been added!  dackley@posterous.com

Have a very Merry Christmas!

Dear Parent(s),

We are off to the North Pole on Friday, the 16th!  We will be traveling by train.  Special snacks will be served and we will be wearing pajamas! The children may bring robes, slippers, a special blanket, or a stuffed animal.  It is a good idea to wear the pajamas under their clothing.  It is much easier for the children.  Tennis shoes will still be needed because the children will have gym.

On Wednesday, the 14th, we will be decorating gingerbread houses and doing several gingerbread activities.  The children will each have a house and I am asking that each child bring 2 bags of candy to share with the other children so everyone can decorate their houses.  Thanks!

We also got to go to the Center of the Arts and watch some of Fergus Falls finest dancers.  They all did a very nice job and I was surprised at how much the kindergarten children enjoyed watching the dancers.

We will be talking about the letter Jj this next week.  Please help your child remember to bring something for show and tell that begins with the letter Jj on Friday.

The children have enjoyed watching the red wagon fill up with canned goods and even coins that will be delivered to our food shelf.  Thank you for donating.  It will continue through Friday, the 16th.

Winter Program is scheduled for Wednesday, the 21st at 1:30.  The children have been singing some very cute songs!  I am sure you will enjoy them all!

Don’t forget library books for Monday!!!!!

Have a good weekend1

Dear Parent(s),

The children have been talking about whether or not we will have a party in our classroom.  We are!  We will be going to the North Pole on Friday, the 16th.  We will be riding on the Polar Express and the children will need to wear their pajamas to school that day!

The holiday season is a time of giving and we have talked about this in our classroom. This activity brought up the discussion of what kind of gift that the children were going to buy me.  I really do appreciate the gifts that the children bring but I would much rather you buy something for our classroom if you really need to buy something.  We always need glue, (especially glue bottles!) crayons, markers, stamps, books, or anything else you can think of.  Thank you!

What a great Hh week! Home Depot donated picture frames for the kids to make along with their very own apron! The children had a great time hammering away!  They all got to practice those fine motor skills! Thank you to those who were able help us.

This next week, we will get to go to a ballet!  We will be learning about the letter Ii and working on all kinds of math skills. We have been working on story problems-simple addition and subtraction.  Make up simple story problems in the car and help your child get to be an expert!

Save the date!  Our winter program is scheduled for Wednesday, Dec. 21st at 1:00

Have a great weekend!
